Hi, I'm Kalash.

I grew up in Jalgaon, spent part of high school in Singapore on a national scholarship, and now study Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. I like projects where software eventually has to argue with physics.

So far, that has meant building hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure for an implantable neurotechnology system at Science Corporation, working across electronics and embedded systems on an early nanopore DNA reader at BioCompute, and implementing a neural network directly on an FPGA - without hiding the difficult parts behind high-level abstractions.

I also founded the Fun Learning Youth Foundation, an education nonprofit that has worked with more than 1,500 students across 14 cities in India. Somewhere along the way, I have built mapping software, education platforms, cognitive-assessment tools, and a package that tracks your work time and intensity by measuring how many spacebars you press in a day.

I am interested in hardware, biology, intelligence, education, and inexpensive machines that give people more agency. Left unsupervised, I would also like to build a flying sword, a bubble-shooting sword, and a motorized guillotine. I am currently learning Mandarin and, less successfully, how to whistle.

This website is part portfolio, part notebook, and part storage unit for ideas that should probably not be funded.

Making brain-implant tests fail safely

Trying to read DNA through a nanopore

BioCompute, Electronics, Device Integration, Simulation

Contributed to an early nanopore DNA-reader prototype across electronics, device integration, simulation, and embedded systems.

A neural network with no multipliers allowed

FPGA, Verilog, Fixed-Point Arithmetic, Verification

Implemented inference in RTL using quantized weights, on-chip memory, custom multiply-accumulate logic, and deterministic finite-state-machine control.

Flew rubber ducks tied to balloons over Oxford with a QR code attached. This made sense at the time.

A very accidental photo shoot

Ended up in the red light district of Manila alone at 2am, went to an American diner, and ended up recruiting a group of drunk strangers to take pictures of me.
